On Monday August 3, 2009 at approximately 1:30AM West Union Police stopped a suspicious subject walking in the 200 Block of South Vine St. Upon checking the subject for warrants it was determined that the subject, identified as William Reed,34, of Des Moines was listed as a missing person by the Des Moines Police Department. It was determined that Reed had left Des Moines approximately three weeks ago without notifying any family members. Reed has been travelling with the carnival that was in town for the Fayette County Fair. After determining that Reed was not in any danger Reed was released without further charges.

West Union Police came upon a
disturbance in the 300 Block of South Vine St on August 3rd 2009 at
approximately 10:54PM. Arrested for Public Intoxication and Disorderly

On Monday, August 10 2009 West Union Police issued an arrest warrant for Daniel Mcguigan, 32, of West Union. Mcguigan was charged with Possession of Marijuana and possession of Drug paraphernalia. These charges stem from an incident that occurred on July 19, 2009 when police responded to a residence on E. Plum Street for a domestic disturbance. Mcguigan was issued a summons to appear in court at a later date.
West Union police have also recovered more lawn ornaments that were found at the Rec Center in West Union. Police have also recovered six orange traffic cones with no markings on them. To claim any of these items please call the West Union police at 422-3535 or stop by the police station.
On Wednesday, August 19 2009, West Union Police responded to a report of an accident on Maple St near Parent Share and Support. It was determined that a lawn mower operated by Arthur Wolfs of West Union struck a vehicle driven by Amanda Stiver of Hawkeye. Stivers vehicle suffered approximately $1700.00 in damage from this incident while the lawn mower was not damaged. No one was hurt.
On Friday, August 28, 2009 West Union Police charged Shannon L. Thompson, 30, of Hawkeye with a violation of Pseudoephedrine retail restrictions. This charge stems from a violation of this law on August 22, 2009 in which Thompson purchased more than one pseudoephedrine product in a twenty four hour period.
On Sunday, August 30, 2009 at approximately 12:36AM West Union Police arrested Kelly J. Wander, 49, of Elgin for OWI 1st offense after a traffic Violation on Hwy 18 East. Wander was transported to the Fayette County Sheriffs office where he was held for court.
